The Institute of Advanced Financial Planners has launched an accreditation program designed to help Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholders more easily obtain their Registered Financial Planner (RFP) designation.

The Vancouver-based organization, which administers the RFP, said in a release that the program “recognizes the education and skills that CFA charterholders have obtained through the process of successfully completing the CFA Program.”

While the path to the RFP designation will be more streamlined for CFAs, the skills of those applying will still be “tested at a very high level,” said IAFP president Jacquie Skinner in the release.

In particular, applicants will be required to submit a comprehensive financial plan and complete a technical exam.

Toronto-based FP Canada similarly offers an alternate path to certification for CFAs who want their CFP. Advisors can skip the Introduction to Professional Ethics course, among other curricula, and move directly to the CFP Professional Education Program.
