The responsible investment arm of proxy advisory firm Institutional Shareholder Services Inc. (ISS) is launching a new family of climate benchmark indexes.

The indexes, which are being launched in partnership with indexing firm Solactive, are designed to meet the standards for climate benchmarks set by the European Union’s expert group on sustainable finance.

“Through this family of indices, we are pleased to deliver to market our industry leading climate data and analytics for the benefit of institutional investors seeking to deploy climate-conscious portfolios,” said Marija Kramer, head of ISS ESG, in a statement.

The initial indexes will cover developed markets, with the firms possibly expanding coverage based on client demand.

“As our climate impact analyses demonstrate, the investment community now has a proven vehicle for direct investment in opportunities related to energy transition and a hedge against climate transition risks,” Kramer added.
