Ontario Securities Commission vice chair Howard Wetston has been appointed chair of the Ontario Energy Board.

The job starts June 30, and he remains at the OSC in the meantime.

“Mr. Wetston has an impressive background that I believe will benefit the Ontario Energy Board and the people of Ontario,” said Energy Minister John Baird. “He is a person with the necessary skill set to implement our reforms and lead the OEB now and into the future.”

Wetston has been a Federal Court Judge, a Director of Investigation and Research at the Bureau of Competition Policy, General Counsel with the Canadian Transport Commission, and Assistant General Counsel with the National Energy Board.

In an internal email, OSC chair, David Brown, said, “My feelings are mixed because I am sad that we will be losing Howard at the OSC. Over the last four years he has made a large and valuable contribution to our success. We will miss his thoughtful approach to policy issues, his leadership in the strengthening of our tribunal processes and, not least of all, his quiet sense of fun.”
