For the second year in a row, Jim Otar has been awarded the prestigious Article Award presented by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. in Denver. One of four winners, Otar won in the Professional/Trade category.

Otar’s articles, Right Road, Wrong Map and The Secret Formula were published in Financial Planning magazine as part of a three-part series. The authors of each award-winning article receive a US$1,000 cash prize. “The examiners thought the article was particularly well done for an audience of personal financial planners,” said CFP Board Director of Education and Examinations Kathryn Ioannides.

Last year, Otar was the first Canadian to win the award and this year he becomes the first person to win the award two years in a row. “Financial Planners Standards Council extends its congratulations to Mr. Otar,” said FPSC President Don Johnston. “This sharing of knowledge with colleagues helps to build the profession.”

“Research and continuing advisor education are critical issues in financial planning. Especially in these bear markets, many investors are seeking advisors’ help for a direction,” said Otar. “I wanted to share with other advisors my research on 100 years of market history and how it applies to retirement planning. I participated in the contest hoping that it may raise the awareness about the looming issues that will affect most of our retiring clients in coming years.”
