Toronto-based Questrade Inc.’s clients can manage their trades and accounts from their smartphones and tablets now that the firm has launched its new mobile platform on Monday.

The mobile option integrates Questrade’s trading platform and client website. In other words, users can make a trade, access research tools and transfer money in and out of their accounts as necessary from their mobile devices. Users can navigate the screen using a “task menu” tool.

“This is the way of the future. Everything is going mobile nowadays,” says Edward Kholodenko, president and CEO of Questrade. “One thing we’ve been hearing is people want more and more mobility. We knew this is something that we needed to deliver on.”

To do that properly, he says that Questrade focused on creating a mobile platform that could adapt to any screen, as there are so many devices with different sizes. And with the new mobile platform, users can access their accounts from any mobile device whether it’s the latest iPhone or a tablet using an Android operating system. For clients who are a little more sedentary, the platform will adapt to a larger laptop or desktop screen.

The new platform will also allow prospective clients to test the securities trading waters via their smartphones or tablets with a 30-day practice account that will mimic Questrade’s trading platform.

Although clients of Portfolio IQ, Questrade’s robo-advisor platform, may not be doing much in the way of trading, they can check their accounts from any smartphone or tablet device through the new mobile platform.

In addition to the mobile platform, Questrade recently updated IQ Edge, its active trader platform. IQ Edge now allows users to make conditional orders that will only take place when an underlying stock meets certain criteria, such as price. Users can set a specific date and time during which they want the platform to monitor the market for their specific conditions.

A new “screener window” tool allows IQ Edge users to scan markets for particular securities based on certain criteria regarding price, trading volume and fundamental data. The window allows users to open pre-set screens, which rank stocks based on things such as volatility, volume and trading activity.
