The Ontario Securities Commission’s Investor Education Fund has won the gold medal in the Not-for-Profit Category at the 2010 Institute of Public Administration of Canada/Deloitte Public Sector Leadership Awards, the OSC said Tuesday.

The IEF was established in 2001 by the OSC to develop and promote independent financial information, programs and tools to help consumers make better financial and investing decisions. It is a non-profit organization funded by settlements and fines from OSC enforcement proceedings.

The OSC supports the work of the IEF in providing and expanding outreach initiatives to investors, and strengthening the financial literacy of Ontarians.

“The IEF has been transforming the design and delivery of financial information to reach those who need it the most and to meet the changing financial needs of people throughout their lives,” says Howard Wetston, OSC chairman.

“This prestigious award recognizes the IEF’s leadership and vision in developing content, expanding online delivery and leveraging innovative partnerships to reach different demographic groups based on their specific financial learning needs, preferences and behaviours.”
