To mark Investor Education Month in October, the Ontario Securities Commission will launch a campaign to educate investors about the critical details they should check before making an investment decision.
The “Check Before You Invest” campaign is designed to boost public awareness of free, objective investor education resources. Ontarians are encouraged to visit checkbeforeyouinvest.ca — an OSC web site that brings together investment resources, including brochures, online tools and a public inquiries line.
“Taking the time to do some research before investing your money is time well spent,” said OSC Chairman David Wilson, in a news release. “Our goal is to help Ontarians take a more active role in their financial affairs and become better equipped to protect their money.”
The campaign was developed to motivate investors to explore four main areas before investing:
- Know where you’re going with your investments;
- Know who you’re dealing with;
- Know what you’re investing in; and
- Know where to go for help.
The OSC will reach out to investors across the province with its message this Fall and Winter through community presentations, transit ads, trade show exhibits and TV and radio spots in select communities.
The campaign runs from October 2006 until the end of RRSP season in February 2007.
