At a time when even experienced investors are unsure where to put their money, the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) is kicking off Investor Education month in October.

The CSA is urging investors to spend time researching any investment opportunity before making decisions, particularly in the wake of today’s uncertain financial markets.

Specifically, the CSA encourages investors to seek advice from advisors, and discourages making sudden moves based on media stories or unsound advice.

“In good or bad times, investors should resist the temptation to make quick decisions about their investments,” says Jean St-Gelais, CSA chairman and president and CEO of the Autorité des marchés financiers. “Taking the time to get more information is always a good idea.”

The CSA is also reminding investors to be cautious of fraud artists offering no-risk, high-return investment pitches.
