The U.S. Senate confirmed the nominations of two new commissioners to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The Senate announced that it confirmed the nominations of Kara Stein and Michael Piwowar to serve as SEC commissioners. Stein’s term expires June 5, 2017, while Piwowar’s runs a year longer, expiring June 5, 2018.
Additionally, the Senated confirmed SEC chairwoman, Mary Jo White, for a term expiring June 5, 2019.
Heath Abshure, president of the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) and Arkansas Securities Commissioner, congratulated Stein and Piwowar on their confirmations, saying they “will make strong additions to the commission.”
“State securities regulators have worked with Kara and Michael on issues of importance to Main Street investors while they served members of the Senate Banking Committee staff, and we look forward to continuing this constructive collaboration during their service as members of the commission,” he said.
