Statistics Canada reported today that sales by wholesalers fell for the first time in six months in July.
The agency said four of seven sectors it measures, which accounted for 67% of total sales, posted declines.
StatsCan said most of the drop came from lower sales of building materials, machinery and electronic equipment.
The drop was partly offset by increased sales of chemicals and farm supplies.
Sales came in at $39.7 billion, down 0.5% compared with June.
