On Monday, Statistics Canada releases manufacturing sales figures for September. Economists expect a rise of 1.6%.
On Wednesday, Statistics Canada reports on the consumer price index for October. Economists expect a rise 0.3% from the same month last year, and a rise of 0.1% from September. Core CPI, which excludes food and energy, is expected to have increased 1.7% year-over-year.
On Thursday, Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney gives a speech in New York to the Foreign Policy Association on the future of the international monetary system.
StatsCan reports on international securities transactions in September. Economists expect a net inflow of $4.1-billion.
Separately, StatsCan releases wholesale sales figures for September. A 1% increase from the previous month is forecast.
South of the border
On Monday, the U.S. Department of Commerce reports advance retail sales for October. Economists expect a 0.9% increase. Excluding autos, an increase of 0.4% is forecast.
Separately, Commerce reports on business inventories for August. Economists expect a drop of 0.5%.
U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke addresses the Economic Club of New York.
As well, a two-day joint conference begins in Washington, D.C., by the Bank for International Settlements, the European Central Bank and the World Bank on portfolio and risk management for central banks and sovereign wealth funds.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Labour reports on the producer price index in October. Economists expect a monthly increase of 0.5% and a year-over-year drop of 1.6%.
The U.S. Federal Reserve Board reports on industrial production and capacity utilization in October. Industrial production is expected to increase 0.4%, and the capacity utilization rate is forecast at 70.8%, up from 70.5% the previous month.
On Wednesday, the U.S. Labour Dept. reports on the consumer price index for October. Economists expect an increase of 0.2% from the previous month, and a 0.2% drop year-over-year. Excluding food and energy, respective increases of 0.1% and 1.6% are forecast.
The U.S. Commerce Dept. reports on housing starts and building permits for October. Economists expect 600,000 housing starts on an annualized basis, up from 590,000 the previous month; building permits are expected at an annualized 581,000, up from 573,000.
On Thursday, the U.S. Conference Board reports on leading indicators in October. Economists expect an increase of 0.4%.

On Monday, General Motors Co. releases preliminary third-quarter earnings, as does Lowe’s Cos. Inc.
On Tuesday, Loblaw Cos. Ltd. reports its third-quarter earnings, as does Canadian Solar Inc., Home Depot Inc., Saks Inc. and Target Corp.
On Wednesday, Metro Inc. reports its fourth-quarter earnings as does Gaz Métro LP reports.
