After a record-high in August, the value of building permits taken out by contractors fell in September, Statistics Canada reported today.

StatsCan said builders took out $5.1 billion worth of permits in September, down 5.3% from the record $5.4 billion worth in August.

Economists had forecast a 5% drop, month-over-month,

The boom continued for single and multiple housing units with permits rising by 3.2% to $3.3 billion.

It was the non-residential sector that dragged down the overall figure.

The value of non-residential permits came in at $1.9 billion, down 17.1% from August.

The agency also says that the value of all permits issued in the first nine months of this year reached $45.2 billion, up 10.7% from the same period last year.
