Standard & Poor’s Canadian Index Operations says Telesystem International Wireless Inc. (TSX:TIW) will be removed from the S&P/TSX composite and capped composite, the S&P/TSX smallcap and the S&P/TSX capped telecommunication services indices at the close of business today.

On May 25, the European Commission regulatory authorities approved the acquisition by Vodafone Group PLC (LSE:VOD) of Mobifon in Romania and Oskar Mobil in the Czech Republic from Telesystem International Wireless Inc.

Since this approval represented the final hurdle to completion of the transaction, Telesystem will be removed from the S&P/TSX indices.

In a separate release, S&P says it has completed the monthly rebalancing of the S&P/TSX Canadian bond index.
