Standard & Poor’s Canadian index operations has revised the make up of the Toronto Stock Exchange’s benchmark index. The changes to the S&P/TSX composite index are effective after the close of business on September 17.

Five stocks are being added to the index:

  • Algoma Steel Inc. (AGA);
  • Microcell Telecommunications Inc. (MT.B);
  • NovaGold Resources Inc. (NG);
  • Transat A.T. Inc. (TRZ); and
  • Western Silver Corp. (WTC).

Three issues will be dropped from the index:

  • Bennett Environmental Inc. (BEV);
  • ConjuChem Inc. (CJC); and
  • Miramar Mining Corp.

S&P says the changes will also affect the S&P/TSX capped composite index.
