Standard & Poor’s Canadian index operations on Monday announced several index changes as a result of the quarterly S&P/TSX composite index review. The changes will be effective after the close of business on Friday, September 19.
Stocks to be added to the benchmark index include:
Cambior Inc. (CBJ); Cequel Energy Inc. (CQL); First Calgary Petroleums Ltd. (FCP); Golden Star Resources Ltd. (GSC); Mega Bloks Inc. (MB); and Telesystem International Wireless Inc. (TIW).
The following shares will be deleted from the S&P/TSX composite index: Air Canada (AC); Stantec Inc. (STN); Stelco Inc. (STE.A); and Ultra Petroleum Corp. (UP).
These changes to the S&P/TSX composite index will also affect the S&P/TSX capped composite index and TSX 200 indices.
Air Canada, Stelco and Ultra Petroleum will be replaced in the S&P/TSX MidCap index by Axcan Pharma Inc. (AXP), Kingsway Financial Services Inc. (KFS) and Sobey’s Inc. (SBY), which will graduate from the S&P/TSX SmallCap Index.
