Gross domestic product growth among OECD countries slowed to 0.6% in the third quarter, the Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said Monday.

The OECD says that this marks the sixth consecutive quarter of growth, but is down from the 0.9% growth recorded in the second quarter.

Europe led the slowdown. In that region, GDP grew by 0.4% in the third quarter, down from the 1.0% recorded in the previous quarter. Growth in Germany was down sharply to 0.7% from the record 2.3% growth recorded in the previous quarter, and growth also slowed in France, Italy and the United Kingdom.

Growth rates accelerated in Japan from 0.4% to 0.9%, and also slightly in the United States, 0.4% to 0.5%, compared to the previous quarter.

Canada was not included as its latest quarterly data is not yet available.

On a year over year basis, GDP in the OECD area is up by 3.1%, which is the same rate as in the previous quarter.
