Statistics Canada says the economy grew by 0.3% in February, driven mostly by manufacturing.
The agency says real gross domestic product was also boosted by gains in mining.
Manufacturing output overall rose 1.2% in February, but durable goods makers showed 1.4% growth.
Overall, the mining sector increased 0.4% in February, although with oil and gas taken out, output grew by 7.6%.
There were modest increases in retail trade and construction.
The volume of wholesale activity declined 1.4% following five consecutive monthly increases.
