Raw materials prices were down in September, following three monthly increases, Statistics Canada reported today.
The government agency said raw material prices fell by 0.3% in September after rising by 4.5% in August.
Manufacturers saw the cost of raw materials fall in September, even though prices for fuel continued to rise.
However, StatsCan reported prices for goods at the factory gate rose for the second month in a row.
Prices for manufactured goods at the plant gate were up 0.4% in September from a month earlier, and up by 0.6% from September last year.
Prices paid by manufacturers for intermediate goods, those generally bought to make other products, rose 0.6% in September from August and were up by the same amount from a year earlier.
Prices for finished goods were up 0.2% in September from August, and by 0.6%% from September last year.
