Toronto-based Sun Life Global Investments (Canada) Inc. is adding three new currency-hedged series to two mutual funds.

Sun Life MFS U.S. Growth Fund and Sun Life MFS U.S. Value Fund are now available in Series FH for investors with fee-based accounts; Series OH for investors with private client accounts; and Series IH for institutional investors. This is in addition to Series AH, for retail investors with advisors, which had already been available.

The new series provide flexibility for various groups of Canadians who are invested in those two funds and are looking to hedge their exposure to U.S. currency, according to the firm’s announcement released Friday.

“Over recent years the Canadian dollar has been falling against the U.S. dollar and Canadian investors have benefited from being unhedged,” says Sadiq Adatia, chief investment officer of Sun Life Global Investments, in a statement. “However, with the gains the Canadian dollar has made recently, a hedging strategy may become a more attractive approach for investors.”
