(April 4 – 10:10 ET) – Ethical Funds Inc. and Mackenzie Financial Corp. have settled their dispute over the use of the word “ethical”.

Mackenzie has agreed to change the name of its “Universal Ethical Opportunities Fund” to “Universal Global Ethics Fund”. Ethical will drop its trademark infringement suit against the firm in return.

Ethical filed suit in the Federal Court of Canada back in February, seeking an injunction to restrain Mackenzie from using the word “ethical,” claiming it infringes their trademark. The firms say they settled to “avoid a costly and time-consuming legal battle.”
