Toronto-based Coin Capital Investment Management Inc. has launched its first two ETFs on the Toronto Stock Exchange, the company announced Thursday.

The funds focus on emerging technologies, such as blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI) and nanotechnology.

Coincapital STOXX Blockchain Patents Innovation Index Fund focuses on global companies that are investing in the research and development of blockchain technologies. The fund follows the iSTOXX Yewno Developed Markets Blockchain Index which uses a proprietary AI algorithm to identify and select companies with patent-pending and patent-approved blockchain products.

“We think having an appropriate amount of allocation in these [blockchain] protocals through patent-pending or patent-approved [products] is really important as part of a growth strategy going forward,” says Lewis Bateman, CEO of Coin Capital.

Coincapital STOXX B.R.AI.N Index Fund invests in the global equity securities of companies working in biotechnology, robotics, AI and nanotechnology. The ETF follows the iSTOXXX Developed Markets B.R.AI.I.N Index which selects companies that generate at least 50% of their revenues from the aggregate of those four sectors.

Says Bateman: “These are sectors that are going to bring an evolution to the marketplace for humans.”

Coin Capital is the investment and portfolio management division of Toronto-based Coinsquare Ltd., a trading platform for cryptocurrencies. Coin Capital first launched in July 2018.
