Steve Sibold, a former chairman of the Alberta Securities Commission and the Canadian Securities Administrators, has been appointed general counsel of Calgary-based law firm, Bennett Jones LLP, effective immediately.

As general counsel, he will be responsible for the development and implementation of the firm’s risk management strategies, among other things. He will also practice, primarily in the area of corporate governance.

Sibold was chairman of the ASC from 2000 to 2005. In 2006, he returned to private practice at Bennett Jones. In 2007-2008, he was at the University of California Berkeley on a Fulbright Scholarship.

Sibold has a BA and an LLB from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ont., and received his LLM at the University of California at Berkeley.
