Eric Nuttall will assume the role of lead portfolio manager for Sprott Energy Fund, Sprott Asset Management LP said Monday.

Eric Sprott will continue to be part of the fund’s portfolio management team, supporting Nuttall in the role of advisor.

The promotion of Nuttall from co-manager to lead manager is in recognition of his expertise in the energy sector and his successful investment contributions to Sprott’s family of funds.

“At Sprott Asset Management, we pride ourselves on hiring and developing the best investment talent and Eric Nuttall is a great example of how we develop talent from within our organization. Our investors should feel very confident with Eric Nuttall becoming lead portfolio manager on the fund”, says Eric Sprott, CEO and CIO of Toronto-based Sprott Asset Management.

Nuttall joined Sprott Asset Management in February 2003. Over his nearly eight years with Sprott, he has primarily focused on the oil and gas sector, and has been responsible for selecting many of the top performing stocks in the sector. He also supports the rest of the Sprott portfolio management team by identifying oil and gas investment opportunities.

Nuttall joined Sprott as a research associate and was subsequently promoted to the position of research analyst in 2005, associate portfolio manager in 2008 and then to portfolio manager in January 2010. In March of this year, Nuttall was made co-manager of Sprott Energy Fund. In addition, he is co-manager of Sprott 2010 Flow-Through Limited Partnership with Allan Jacobs.

Nuttall graduated with high honours from Carleton University with an Honours Bachelor of International Business.
