Rod McLeod was appointed chairman of the MFDA board of directors at the board’s meeting in June, the Mutual Fund Dealers Association of Canada announced Wednesday.

McLeod has served on the MFDA Board since March 2010. He is currently a member of the executive committee and is chair of the governance committee.

He recently retired as a partner (since 1987) at Miller Thomson LLP. He continues to practice law on a part-time basis, including being a member of the Attorney General’s Major Case Review Team.

His career spans a wide range of work, including responsibility for regulators while in government for several years, and acting for private sector companies that were impacted by regulators while in private law practice.

McLeod served as Deputy Minister, Environment (Ontario) 1985-87, Deputy Solicitor General (Ontario) (Police, Corrections and Public Safety) 1982-85 and Assistant Deputy Attorney General and Director of Criminal Law (Chief Prosecutor) 1977-82.

In addition, McLeod is currently board chair, Bellwood Health Services Inc. and board chair, The Ontario Lawyers’ Assistance Program (Law Society).

“I am honoured to take on this important role as chair of the board and to continue to assist the MFDA with the essential work it does on behalf of member firms and the investing public,” McLeod said of his appointment.

“The MFDA board and MFDA members will be well served by Rod’s experience and strong credentials as the MFDA moves forward with its strategic objectives,” added Martin Friedland, former chair, MFDA Governance Committee.
