The Canadian Foundation for Advancement of Investor Rights (FAIR Canada) has hired veteran analyst Steve Garmaise as its associate director.
Garmaise, who has been in the investment industry since 1983, has worked for a variety of firms including Wood Gundy, First Marathon Securities, Merrill Lynch, RBC Capital Markets and Genuity Capital Markets. He was managing director and global head of equity research at RBC before joining Genuity as a founding partner and co-director of research.
Garmaise has also served on the board of the Toronto CFA Society, and currently sits on the board of the Toronto Public Library Foundation, Tarragon Theatre and Toronto’s Jewish Immigrant Aid Services.
FAIR is an independent non-profit organization that is advocating on behalf of investors, tackling issues such as regulatory accountability, shareholder rights, the lack of retail investor involvement with securities regulation, and financial literacy, among other things.
