Michael Gregory has been appointed deputy chief economist and head of U.S. economics at BMO Capital Markets, Bank of Montreal (TSX:BMO) said Monday.

Gregory, who will be based in Chicago, is responsible for increasing the exposure of BMO’s economic research in the U.S. and providing research to U.S. dollar-focused clients around the world. He will also provide support to the U.S. fixed income business, and coordinate BMO Economics’ efforts with the global fixed income strategy team.

A graduate of Concordia University and the University of Western Ontario, Gregory joined BMO in 2001, heading its financial services analysis team, focusing on regulatory and industry restructuring issues. He joined BMO Capital Markets Economics in 2004.

“Michael has provided timely, in-depth analysis and commentary to BMO clients and stakeholders for over a decade,” said BMO Capital Markets’ chief economist, Doug Porter. “As we continue to expand the scope of our North American research, mirroring BMO’s growing footprint in the U.S., Michael will play an important role in driving coverage with on-the-ground insights.”
