Lindsay, Ont.-based software firm PlanPlus Inc. on Friday announced the first annual PlanPlus Canada Financial Planning Awards competition to recognize top financial planners.

Winners of the competition will be recognized at the annual CIFPs conference and can proceed on to the PlanPlus Global Financial Planning Awards and compete against planners from North and South America.

The contest is open to all Canadian advisors that hold a recognized professional designation, and that are in good standing with a financial planning association or other professional body. Planners must submit an actual client plan as their entry (with the client’s permission). A panel of qualified judges will review the plans based on the actions, creativity and professionalism that were demonstrated in the plan to help the client achieve their goals and objectives.

“We are excited to be a founding sponsor for a competition that focuses on financial planning excellence, congratulate PlanPlus on the initiative and encourage our membership and advisors of other associations to participate,” says Keith Costello, CIFPs president and CEO, in a statement.

“This is the fourth year PlanPlus has sponsored global awards with a competition in Europe, Asia and the Americas,” adds John Page, chairperson and head adjudicator of the Canada and Global Financial Planning Awards. “In fact two Canadian CFP planners have won for the Americas in two of the last three years. That said we felt it was important to recognize the outstanding talent in our own backyard, and that we give our advisors the opportunity to compete in a competition that’s exclusively Canadian.”
