(July 6 – 12:15 ET) – Canada Post and Scotiabank today announced the selection of 10 communities in Newfoundland to receive banking services through postal outlets.
The initial communities are Dunville, St. Mary’s, Western Bay, Ferryland, Bloomfield, English Harbour West, Port Au Port, Parsons Pond, Carter’s Cove and Hare Bay. Signage will identify these sites as Scotiabank Post Branches. Additional sites will be added over the next two years based on the success of these pilot locations.
“Our strategy is to enhance Scotiabank’s delivery of financial services by providing choice and convenience to our customers,” said Bob Chisholm, vice chairman, domestic banking, Scotiabank.
“These Scotiabank Post Branches are examples of unique ways we can provide customers with face-to-face banking services in their own communities, complimented by our extensive network of full service branches, electronic banking and mobile Scotiabank Group representatives.”
André Ouellet, president and CEO of Canada Post Corp. said, “Providing banking services through our outlets will help to enhance the role of the post office in small communities. We are working hard to improve service for rural customers.”
Canada Post will act as the agent for Scotiabank in smaller communities where no banking services already exist. Scotiabank will train Canada Post employees to deliver a range of bank products and services while maintaining strict customer privacy and confidentiality standards. Banking hours and post office hours will be the same.
Implementation of the new service is scheduled to begin next month in Dunville and St. Mary’s. It is anticipated all 10 communities will be receiving Scotiabank services through their local Canada Post outlet by the end of September.
