Advocis, The Financial Advisors Association of Canada, will examine how the blurring lines between financial products are leading to changes in the way financial services are regulated at its upcoming symposium.

Jaime Watt will deliver the keynote address at Convergence – The Next Wave: New Products, Regulatory Responses and the Role of the Advisor.

This is Advocis’ third annual symposium. The one-day event will take place in Toronto on November 23.

Leading thinkers from both sides of the regulatory landscape will explore the origins and possible consequences of the current trend toward convergence in the financial services marketplace.

Watt gained prominence as one of the architects of the “Common Sense Revolution” that swept Mike Harris’ Ontario Progressive Conservative Party to two straight majority governments from 1995 to 2002. He is Executive Chairman and Senior Partner of Navigator Ltd. and a Principal at Ensight Canada. He specializes in complex public strategy issues, serving clients in the corporate, professional services, not-for-profit and government sectors.

Other symposium speakers include:

  • Denis Berthiaume, senior vice president and general manager, wealth management and life and health insurance, Desjardins Group
  • Mary Condon, vice chair, Ontario Securities Commission
