The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) is reminding firms that they have until the end of the month to file reports on their complaint handing activity for the first half of 2012.
The regulator says that declarations for the period from January 1 to June 30, must be filed via the Complaint Reporting System (CRS) between July 1 and July 30. Firms that fail to comply may face administrative sanctions, it notes. Firms that don’t declare their complaints will receive formal notices setting out allegations against them and the penalty that the AMF intends to impose. Even companies that have not received any complaints must still file reports.
Dealers that belong to the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) don’t have to report complaints through CRS, as they are already required to report complaints to IIROC through ComSet, which then forwards them to the AMF.
The AMF collects complaint data to help assess the conduct of firms and focus its regulatory resources.
