Ontario’s securities regulators will be in court today to extend the freezing of accounts held in the name of John Cameron Fraleigh or Boutraille Corp.
On Monday of last week, the OSC froze the account held in Fraleigh’s name at BMO InvestorLine, as part of an investigation into trading of securities of Placer Dome Inc. prior to the announcement of a US$9.2 billion takeover bid by Barrick Gold Corp.
On Wednesday, the OSC froze another set of accounts belonging to Fraleigh in connection with trades in Placer Dome securities that took place before Barrick made a bid for the company.
In a release, the OSC said it had frozen accounts held at Dundee Securities Corp. in the name of Fraleigh or Boutraille Corp.
Last week, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission launched a case against an unknown investor who purchased Placer Dome call options just days before Barrick announced a takeover bid for the company in partnership with Goldcorp Inc.
