The Ontario Securities Commission is looking for volunteers to provide it with insight into the challenges faced by small companies.
The OSC is seeking applicants for its renamed Small and Medium Enterprises Committee (formerly known as the Small Business Advisory Committee) to advise the regulator’s staff on issues specific to small firms, including the challenges they face in operating their businesses and raising capital.
The committee, which meets about five times a year, focuses on the development, implementation and communication of policies and practices to address the sorts of issues facing small firms. For example, it notes that regulators are currently considering a proposal that would impose different disclosure requirements on venture issuers.
The committee is seeking approximately 15 members, who will be selected for their experience with small firms, a demonstrated interest in policy matters, knowledge about issues faced by venture issuers in complying with regulatory requirements, and the obstacles small firms face in the capital formation process.
The committee is chaired by Lisa Enright, manager of the OSC’s corporate finance branch. Applications are due by March 30.
