Former Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) executive Connie Craddock is taking over as chairwoman of the Ontario Securities Commission’s Investor Advisory Panel (IAP).

The OSC said Friday that Craddock, former director of public affairs at IIROC, will replace Paul Bates as. The commission said that Bates decided not to continue as chairman of the panel “due to the demands of his other professional obligations.” In addition to serving on the IAP, he is also special advisor to the president and former dean of business at the DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University.

Bates will continue to sit on the panel, and Craddock will take over as chairwoman for a one-year term.

Additionally, the OSC announced that four new members have been appointed to the IAP, each of whom will serve a two-year term: Jane Ambachtsheer, partner at Mercer, where she leads their global responsible investment business; Harold Geller, leader in financial loss recovery group of McBride Bond Christian LLP; Alison Knight, a former industry executive and board member for numerous organizations, including the Consumers Council of Canada; and, Ursula Menke, former commissioner at the federal Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC).

“The panel has become an important voice for investors in the regulatory process, and the new members have been selected to ensure that the panel continues to represent a broad range of relevant experience, skills, knowledge and perspectives,” said Mary Condon, vice chairwoman of the OSC.

The IAP comments on OSC rulemaking proposals, policies, and its annual statement of priorities on behalf of investors. It also brings forward policy issues and advises the OSC on the effectiveness of its investor protection initiatives.
