The Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) is calling on investors to help protect themselves from investment fraud by first checking to see if the individual or firm offering them an investment is registered to do so.

As part of its efforts, the CSA is encouraging investors nationwide to participate in Check Registration Day on March 19.

Investors are invited to visit www.aretheyregistered.ca to use the National Registration Search to see if investment individuals or firms are registered in a particular jurisdiction.

“Investors should have confidence in the individual or firm they choose to handle their money and a registration check is a critical initial step in building that confidence,” says Bill Rice, chairman of the CSA and chairman and CEO of the Alberta Securities Commission.

The CSA first recognized Check Registration Day during Fraud Prevention Month in 2013.
