A judge in Manitoba has sentenced a man to a year in jail for trading securities without registration.

The Manitoba Securities Commission (MSC) announced that James Peter Yaworski has been ordered to spend a year in jail for trading without registration, after he pled guilty to 12 counts of breaching provincial securities law.

The MSC notes that Yaworski will also be on probation for two years following his year of incarceration. The probation will prohibit him from being involved in the securities industry in any capacity, including that he is not to manage or invest money for others, trade in securities on behalf of others, or provide investment advice.

Back in 2002, Yaworski settled with the Alberta Securities Commission (ASC), agreeing to a three-year ban, among other sanctions, for securities violations; and, a two-year ban was imposed by the MSC in 2001 for unregistered trading. The settlement with the ASC indicates that he was also sanctioned by the MSC in the mid-1990s, and that he pled guilty in court to trading breaches in 2001 in Manitoba.
