The Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) has named as a vice chairwoman of the commission, the regulator announced on Thursday. Her term will expire on April 30, 2024.

Horn has been a member of the ASC’s senior management team as general counsel since 2005.

Prior to being named general counsel, Horn had stints as senior legal counsel and associate general counsel at ASC. Before that, she was in private practice,  first at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP in Calgary, and later as a partner at TingleMerrett LLP, practicing securities, corporate and commercial law.

“Kari brings exceptional depth and breadth of knowledge of securities laws and regulatory matters to this role,” says Stan Magidson, chairman and CEO of the ASC, in a statement. “As general counsel, she provided insightful analysis respecting Alberta securities laws and actively participated in strategic discussions regarding policy direction.”

“Our vice chairs play an important role as adjudicators in enforcement and other proceedings. I am delighted that Kari will continue her strong contributions to our mandate of ensuring a fair and efficient capital market, while promoting strong investor protection,” he adds.

Horn has a degree in business from Bishop’s University in Lennoxville, Que. and a law degree from the University of Victoria.
