The global group for securities regulators is looking for a new chief of staff after it was announced that the current one is returning to take a job in his native Australia.

The International Organization of Securities Commissions announced that its current secretary general, Greg Tanzer, will leave that post at the end of the year in order to take up an appointment as a commissioner of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission. Tanzer heads IOSCO’s general secretariat, which runs the organization comprised of the world’s securities regulators.

Tanzer is rejoining the ASIC where he was previously executive director for consumer protection and international. He has been appointed for a four-year term beginning in January 2012.

“The past four years working in IOSCO, and living in Spain, has been one of the most demanding, yet rewarding, experiences of my professional life and I hope to continue my association with the organisation in my new role at ASIC,” said Tanzer.

IOSCO’s executive committee will now begin the process of recruiting a successor.
