The International Organization of Securities Commissions has named a new head of its key policymaking body.
On Tuesday at its annual meeting in Montreal, IOSCO announced the appointment of Hans Hoogervorst, chairman of the Dutch regulator, Autoriteit Financiële Markten, as chairman of the IOSCO Technical Committee.
Hoogervorst will take up the position at the end of the conference on June 11. His term will run for two years.
Hoogervorst, who has served as vice chairman of the technical committee since 2009, replaces Kathleen Casey, a commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Masamichi Kono of the Financial Services Agency of Japan takes over from Hoogervorst as the committee’s vice chairman.
Prior to his appointment as chairman of the AFM, Hoogervorst was the Netherlands’ Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport from May 2003 to February 2007. He was also previously the Minister of Finance and State Secretary for Social Affairs and Employment in the Dutch government. He is also currently chairman of the Monitoring Board of the Accounting Standards Committee Foundation where he represents IOSCO’s Technical Committee.
