The Ontario Securities Commission has published a summary of its chair, David Brown’s, expenses for 2003 and 2004.
The report shows that Brown expensed $116,800 in 2003 and $99,500 in 2004, on travel, meals and various other business expenses. The single biggest expense item each year was international airfare, which accounted for just over $48,000 of the 2003 total; and, about $38,500 of the 2004 total.
In total, international travel (including airfare, accommodation, meals, ground transportation and other items) accounted for $59,172 of expenses in 2003, and $50,226 in 2004. Domestic travel added another $20,946 in 2003 and $13,168 in 2004.
Perhaps the single most-shocking entry is the total of $28 that Brown spent on domestic meals for all of 2003. He managed to get this total up to just over $300 in 2004.
The OSC reports that the expenses were released as part of a request under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The regulator says it decided to release them broadly, “in the interests of transparency”.
