The Canadian Securities Administrators announced that they have renewed the term of chair, Jean St-Gelais, and vice chair, Don Murray, for one year.
The CSA members voted to extend the terms of the chair and vice chair during meetings held in Toronto on March 26 and 27. The members also renewed the term of David Wilson, chair of the Ontario Securities Commission, as chair of the Policy Coordination Committee for one year until March 31, 2010.
St-Gelais, president and CEO of the Autorité des marchés financiers, and CSA chair since April 2005, said, “In the current economic environment, the CSA play a leading role in promoting fair and efficient capital markets for the benefit of all Canadians.”
“I look forward to continued cooperation with my colleagues from other jurisdictions in our efforts to harmonize and improve the regulation of Canada’s capital markets and to effectively enforce securities legislation,” he added.
CSA vice chair, Murray, is also chair of the Manitoba Securities Commission. “We will continue to focus on our fundamental objectives, which are to provide protection to investors and ensure confidence in Canada’s capital markets,” said Murray. “We will remain attentive to current market conditions and public concerns.”
