The Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) has appointed a new secretary general, the umbrella group of securities regulators announced Monday.

Laura Belloni, currently manager of regulatory affairs and policy manager, is taking over as secretary general, effective immediately.

She succeeds Kim Lachapelle, who is joining the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) as vice president, strategy, risks and performance.

In her new role, Belloni is responsible for managing the CSA Secretariat and co-ordinating the implementation of the CSA’s strategic plan.

“We are pleased to have someone of Laura’s calibre take over as secretary general. She has intimate knowledge of all the matters of interest to the CSA,” says Louis Morisset, CSA chairman and president and CEO of the AMF. “Her appointment will ensure continuity and success for all of us.”

Belloni joined the CSA in 2007. Prior to that, she was legal counsel and policy advisor at the AMF and she practiced law at Argentinian law firm, Marval, O’Farrell & Mairal. She is licensed to practice law in Argentina and Quebec.
