A Chicago investor is suing Toronto law firm Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP, its former managing partner, Gregory Peebles and their former client, Robert Hryniak, for losses arising out of a fraudulent investment scheme.

The suit, which was filed March 6, alleges that Cassels Brock and Peebles were used by their client, Hryniak, to add an air of credibility and plausibility to a fraudulent investment scheme that has resulted in a loss of millions of dollars to a number of investors across North America.

As part of the scheme, the investor met with eebles, at the offices of Cassels Brock, where it was explained that the investment was a safe and secure investment with a high yield of return.

In a release, lawyers for the plaintiff said law enforcement authorities have been notified about the scheme.

Charges have already been laid by the RCMP against a number of people involved, including Robert Cranston of London, Ont. a participant in the scheme.
