Canadian securities regulators are planning the next industry-wide test of business continuity plans (BCP) for October 2015.

The Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) has scheduled the next bi-annual BCP test for Oct. 24, 2015. IIROC says that the test date has been set to coincide with a planned test in the U.S. to facilitate the participation of certain organizations in both the U.S. and Canadian tests.

“This important undertaking… represents a unique opportunity for the Canadian dealer community to demonstrate its ability to recover from a significant disruptive event,” IROC says in its notice announcing the test.

It notes that a working group will be formed to oversee the preparations for the test. And, once a test scenario has been finalized, it will be seeking volunteers for the test. IIROC also says that it will try to get the industry’s major service providers to participate. In 2013, 48 firms participated in the test, it says.
