The Toronto-based C.D. Howe Institute on Monday announced the appointment of Howard Wetston, former chairman and CEO of the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), as a senior fellow.
Wetston recently completed his five-year term with the OSC. He was previously chairman and CEO of the Ontario Energy Board from 2003 to 2010, and was a vice chairman of the OSC from 1999 to 2003. He was also vice chairman of the board of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO). He has also spent time as a federal judge, a crown counsel, and in private practice, among other roles.

“Howard’s record of accomplishment and public service is outstanding. He has made signal contributions to addressing many of Canada’s most critical regulatory challenges,” says William Robson, president and CEO of the C.D. Howe Institute, in a statement. “We are honoured to have him as an Institute fellow, and enthusiastic about working with him.”
A number of former regulators also have roles at the think tank, including Susan Wolburgh Jenah, former president and CEO of the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization off Canada (IIROC), and Nick Le Pan, former head of the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI), who both sit on the Institute’s national council, along with a couple of former Bank of Canada chiefs, including David Dodge, who chairs the group.
