Nigel Cave is now a vice chairman for the British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC), the regulator announced on Thursday.

Formerly a partner with Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) in Vancouver, Cave was the leader of the office’s Capital Market’s group and a member of the firm’s management committee. His law career focused on corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and advising capital markets participants, including registrants, stock exchanges and self-regulatory agencies.

“I am delighted that Nigel has joined the BCSC as vice chair,” said Brenda Leong, chairwoman of the regulator, in a statement. “He brings a wealth of business, financial and legal experience to the commission that will be invaluable in helping to guide our securities regulatory policy and decisions.”

Cave will hold his position at the BSCS until Jan. 31, 2018. He joins Brent Aitken as vice chairman of the provincial regulator.
