The Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) announced the appointment of Tom Cotter as vice chairman of the provincial regulator on Monday.

Currently, Cotter is currently a partner with the Business Law Group at McCarthy Tétrault in Calgary. Cotter has extensive experience in advising companies and investment firms on public offerings, private placements, cross-border financings, mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, recapitalizations, going-private transactions, corporate governance, proxy contests and regulatory compliance.

Cotter’s responsibilities will include acting as an adjudicator of certain applications, disputes, appeals and enforcement proceedings. The new vice chairman will also serve as a commission member.

The appointment is a six-year team and will take effect as of April 1.
