New Alberta law to give SROs greater powers

Alberta has appointed Maryse Saint-Laurent as a member of the Alberta Securties Commision (ASC) for a three-year term commencing July 7, the provincial securities regulator announced on Monday.

Saint-Laurent, former vice president, legal and corporate secretary, of TransAlta Corp., is currently a consultant providing board advisory services, and is a director of Western Sky Land Trust and the Calgary Prostate Cancer Centre. She has an LL.M. (securities and finance) from York University’s Osgoode Hall.

Ian Beddis, Brad Nemetz, and Ann Rooney, have been re-appointed for three-year terms as members of the ASC, the commission says, with Rooney named lead independent member.
