The Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) are looking for participants for their new initiative to facilitate access to consolidated real-time market data (RTMD) by retail investors and investment advisors, the regulators said in a release on Friday.

The new retail committee will focus on evaluating how retail investors and retail investment advisors access consolidated RTMD, as well as on identifying any barriers to accessing this data.

The committee’s goal is to develop recommendations to improve access to consolidated RTMD products for these investors and advisors, the release said.

Applicants to the committee may come from retail-focused investment firms and platforms, investor advocacy groups, data vendors and technology providers, academics and other stakeholders with relevant experience.

The release said submissions should be sent to marketdata_committees@osc.gov.on.ca with the subject line: Retail Industry Committee – Expression of Interest” by Jan. 9.

The CSA previously said it planned to consult on access to consolidated RTMD for retail investors and their advisors, as part of a broader effort to address long-standing industry concerns about the cost of market data.
