Toronto-based RF Capital Group Inc. has appointed a new communications head to support the growth of subsidiary Richardson Wealth Ltd., the firm said in a release on Wednesday.

Julie Burnham was named to the newly created position of vice-president of strategic communications for Richardson Wealth, effective April 5.

Burnham is expected to “make a strong contribution to communicating our ambitious go-forward growth strategy later this spring,” said Sarah Widmeyer, director of wealth strategies at Richardson Wealth, in the release.

Burnham will be “invaluable in telling the Richardson Wealth story to existing and prospective clients and advisors across Canada, and will be key to enhancing our overall advisor experience,” Widmeyer said.

Burnham joins the company from BMO Private Wealth, where she was senior advisor, communications and investment advisor experience.

Her appointment follows RF Capital Group’s dismissal on Monday of a takeover offer from rival Canaccord Genuity Inc. RF’s board said the proposal wasn’t in the best interests of shareholders, advisors and clients.
