Calgary-based McLean & Partners Wealth Management Ltd. has named Jamie Robertson as the firm’s new chief investment officer. In Robertson’s new role, he will lead a team of five to provide research in global dividend growth equities, preferred shares and fixed-income investments. Robertson had spent the past 10 years at Manulife Financial Corp. in Toronto, at which he held the role of vice president, proprietary investments (equities). Robertson has more than 30 years of experience as an investment manager, with a particular focus on equities investing and fixed-income trading. (See story on page 20.)

Changes at Ace Canada

Toronto-based ACE INA Insurance Ltd., a subsidiary of Zurich-based ACE Ltd., has appointed Steven Lucas as vice president, national accounts. In his new role, Lucas will lead the firm’s business-development strategy and will be the principal contact for ACE INA’s national account segment. Previously, Lucas had been the assistant vice president for ACE INA’s management liability division. Lucas first joined the company in 2005 as a senior underwriter, specializing in directors’ and officers’ liability insurance. ACE INA provides life and casualty insurance products and services across Canada.

Cumberland adds Jackson

Toronto-based Cumberland Private Wealth Management Inc. has announced that Peter Jackson is now chief investment officer for the firm, succeeding John Wilson. Jackson had spent the past 12 years with Cumberland and previously held the role of vice CIO. He remains the senior portfolio manager for Cumberland’s Canadian and North American equities investment mandates, as well as the manager of both the Cumberland Special Opportunities and Cumberland Energy funds. In Jackson’s new role, he will oversee all of Cumberland’s investment mandates and manage its team of research analysts and portfolio managers. Before joining Cumberland, Jackson had managed a private investment partnership that was a subadvisor for Toronto-based PCJ Investment Counsel Ltd.

Wilson leads Sprott funds

John Wilson has been named lead portfolio manager of Toronto-based Sprott Asset Management LP’s Sprott Opportunities Hedge Fund LP and Sprott Opportunities RSP Fund. Wilson, who has more than 25 years of investment and business experience, joined Sprott in Jan. 2012. Previously, he held the role of chief investment officer with Cumberland Private Wealth Management Inc. in Toronto. As the lead manager for the Sprott funds, Wilson plans to continue managing the funds as opportunistic, “go anywhere” long/short strategies by focusing on delivering strong risk-adjusted returns, investing in undervalued stocks, shorting overvalued stocks and using options-based strategies to enhance income generation and manage risk for investors.
